About Rep Piccolantonio
Beryl Brown Piccolantionio is an attorney and served on the Gahanna School board. She presided over administrative hearings, worked in the human resources and legal departments as the Director of Labor Relations and served as chief ombudsperson for Ohio’s workers’ compensation system. Much of Beryl’s focus has been spent on labor relations, where she prioritized worker’s rights and strives to create an equitable workplace. Representative Piccolantonio was appointed to the House in January to replace Mary Lightbody. She serves on several key committees: House Pensions (ranking member), Primary and Secondary Education, Commerce and Labor, and the Ohio Retirement Study Council. As she has not served a full term she does not have a OEA Legislative Scorecard yet.

Rank-and-file OEA members from legislative districts and surrounding school districts screened Ohio Senate and General Assembly candidates based on their positions regarding the following issues:
- Support for fully funding the Fair School Funding Plan to ensure students and educators have the resources they need and to alleviate dependency on local property tax levies.
- Stopping state interference in the relationship between educators, parents and students to ensure students receive the resources they need and an inclusive, culturally responsible and truthful education.
- Decreasing standardized testing.
- Shifting away from the State of Ohio’s report cards being based on testing outcomes.
- Support for stopping state take-overs of school districts due to low standardized test scores.
- Preservation of educators’ pensions to ensure a safe, secure retirement and so Ohio can attract and retain the educators of tomorrow.
- Opposition to privatizing educational services to ensure education positions remain good union jobs.
- Support for unions and collective bargaining to ensure educators receive fair contracts and have a voice in the workplace.
- Opposition to vouchers and voucher expansion and support for charter and private school accountability.
