About Dr. Brad Cotton

Dr. Brad Cotton MD is an Emergency MD of 45 years. Cotton grew up in Lorain County and attended public schools before attending Kent State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Before enrolling at Kent State University worked in a several iron and steel foundries as a union worker. He was burned by molten steel, eventually requiring skin grafts. 

Twelve years after graduating from Kent State, Cotton completed an MD degree and emergency medicine residency at Ohio State University. Cotton shares his passion for public education. He attended medical school and emergency medicine residency at The Ohio State University, receiving honors and commendations. He served 8 years with the US Army reserve with 2291st Army Hospital and the 256th Combat Support Hospital.   

Brad Cotton is not an incumbent and therefore does not have a rank on the OEA Legislative Scorecard, however his opponent Brian Stewart holds a low score of 11 on the OEA Legislative Scorecard.

  • Stopping book bans, infringing on educators’ academic freedom, censorship, and ensuring the ability of students to receive an inclusive, historically accurate, and truthful education
  • Decreasing standardized testing
  • Shifting away from the State of Ohio’s report cards being based on testing outcomes
  • Stopping state takeovers of school districts due to low standardized test scores
  • Preservation of educators’ pensions to ensure a safe, secure retirement so Ohio can attract and retain the educators of tomorrow
  • Opposition to privatizing educational services to ensure education positions remain good union jobs
  • Support for unions and collective bargaining to ensure educators receive fair contracts and have a voice in the workplace
  • Opposition to vouchers and voucher expansion, and support for charter and private school accountability
