About Rep. Somani
Dr. Anita Somani is currently serving her first term as State Representative for Ohio’s 11th House District. For the last 31 years, Dr. Somani has worked in Columbus as a highly respected healthcare professional, currently as an OBGYN at OhioHealth. She earned her M.D. from the Medical College of Ohio and completed her residency in OB/GYN at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Columbus. In addition to practicing medicine, she serves as a Co-Chair of the Physicians Action Network and as the State Director for South Asians for America. She is also a board member of the Columbus Medical Association and Planned Parenthood of Central Ohio.
Dr. Somani holds a score of 100 on OEA’s Legislative Scorecard.

Decreasing standardized testing
Shifting away from the State of Ohio’s report cards being based on testing outcomes
Stopping state takeovers of school districts due to low standardized test scores
Preservation of educators’ pensions to ensure a safe, secure retirement so Ohio can attract and retain the educators of tomorrow
Opposition to privatizing educational services to ensure education positions remain good union jobs
Support for unions and collective bargaining to ensure educators receive fair contracts and have a voice in the workplace
Opposition to vouchers and voucher expansion, and support for charter and private school accountability
